Window Shopping

I've been doing a lot of window shopping from my computer lately and one of my favorite windows to peruse is Urban Outfitters. I've been saving quite a few photos from the site, for reference of course, and I wanted to share them. Hope you enjoy!

Tall black leather boots are something I actually need. Mine are very worn, which can be fine in some cases, but I really need new ones. I swear!

I love suede and I love wedges!

Fun, no?

My body loves a wrap dress and I really love the asymmetrical hem.

Elbow patches. Need I say more?

FINE. I have a boot obsession. At least I admitted it!

I love simple, delicate necklaces and I think this one fits the bill.

This baby could be worn so many different ways which makes it totally justifiable. Not buying it, are you? I tried.

New Haircut!

Okay, I didn't get a haircut. I just changed the name of my blog to Sincerely, ACC. Now... here comes the comma dilemma. Do I put it in? Do I leave it out? It depends on where I'm using it, but as this is a blog, it's meant to be a cheeky sign off (I'll never say cheeky again, I swear). It's also supposed to emphasize that this blog is really me, though I'm not sure anyone would even want to plagiarize such an odd combination of posts on absolutely nothing. Oh, you're still reading?! So anyway, new name, new job (bookstore), and... that's all that's new. But despite a bad mark on a midterm, all is moving along. Because of this said terrible mark (bio - yuck), I'll be doing a lot of studying, reading, crying, etc. So I've left you with a photo of me pouting studying. Enjoy!

Sincerely,
ACC

(See, it works, right? Right guys?!)

Banishment

As far as school goes, these past few weeks have been crazy! With an endless amount of assignments, midterms, papers, etc., I haven't been able to think about much else. I just started a new job at a bookstore and our internet has been down for the past couple days, plus inspiration has been lost on me as far as blogging goes.

When running errands, I've been popping into a few stores along the way and I've had to restrain from buying everything. Oh the student budget, how I hate you! I saw a plaid blazer with suede elbow pads and a suede lapel, held it in my arms for a few minutes and cried at the thought of leaving it behind. (okay, that didn't happen, but I was sad to leave it!) Since this incident, I've banished myself from shopping. Trust me, it's necessary.
Hope you're having a fantastic start to your week! Just think, it's almost November which is basically December and that means vacation!

More School?

I just signed up for the first course in the New Media Journalism program at SFU. I know what you're thinking, "all she does is complain about school and she signed up for more?!" Yes. I did. But I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy this program and I hope it helps me find a little more direction than where I'm at now. The author of one of my favorite blogs, The Anthology, is the instructor for a course that's all about blogging - and I can't wait for it!

I think something unexpected I've learned about myself over the course of writing a blog (or two), is that I really, really enjoy writing. Hm, an English Literature student who enjoys writing... who would have thunk it?!

PS. There is no significance of this photo to what I just wrote. I think I might just miss summer, but only a little.

PPS. Yes. Those are my feet.

My Girl B

About a month ago, some girlfriends and I took an overnight trip down to Seattle. I was riding shotgun which put me in charge of the music - DJ, if you will. I played the classics, 90's boy bands, and a lot of Robyn. But I just had to put on a song that I had been dancing in my room in my undies to loving ever since the first time I had heard it. I told my friends that if for some reason I was required to pull a Glee and suddenly breakout into song to express how I felt about my lover/boyfriend/partner/husband, THIS would be the song I'd sing and dance to. Oh, and you'd better believe I'd have every single costume change too. -ACC

Literature-ish

(via instagram)

Ah, reading. I'm not sure about you, but reading for pleasure is one of those things that I love and don't get to do very often. Don't get me wrong, I read a lot, but I read a lot for school (yawn!). Most of the novels chosen for my English classes I enjoy reading, but there's something about writing a 1500 word paper on a book that just ruins it for a girl. Anyway, below is a photo of some books I'm really looking forward to reading (in December... on a beach!) Happy Saturday

PS. Yes, you are seeing Jay-Z's Decoded, and yes, you are seeing an odd combo of books. I try to remain current with all genre's.

Rain, Rain, Rain!

So, here's the thing about Vancouver: It rains. A lot. What does one need for rain? Good quality, yet somewhat fashionable, rain gear. This is not an easy feat, my friends. I've lived in this city for a couple years now and I've acquired some great gear. But sadly, my patent black, silver buckled rain boots are literally (and I don't use that word willy nilly - pet peeve) falling apart. For some reason, they are covered in paint, ripping at the seems, and the bottom of my left (or is it the right one?) boot doesn't prevent the water from soaking through = soggy, cold, yucky sock. SO, the time has come for this Vancouverite to decided if I really need those classic Hunter Wellies, OR, just go with a more inexpensive brand, though equally cute. $100 for a pair of rain boots? My student budget cries at this thought but my cold left foot rejoices. What's a girl to do?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

I'm grateful to be spending this day with my parents, despite having loads of school work to do. I wish my brothers were able to be here as I haven't seen them in a while (They'll be here for the Grey Cup in about 6 weeks - party time). I'm thankful for many, many things... especially this pumpkin cookie I'm eating!

Crying In A Dentist Chair

It is Saturday evening and I've been holed up in my room at my desk all... day... long. Can you take a guess as to why? You've got it! School is the dirty culprit voiding me of a Saturday night. Well, I still have a Saturday, just not a fun one.

Because of school and work, among other things, I haven't really gone out much or seen anything particulary interesting to write about. SO, I'm going to tell you a story about the time I cried in a dentist chair. Trust me, it's riveting...

I should begin the story by giving you a little bit of my dental/orthodontic history (oh my god, I'm writing about my braces on my blog on a Saturday night). So as I was saying, my first piece of an orthodontic appliance came to me at the age of 8. It was a retainer. I have no idea what it was for, but I do know that I wore it for a few months. A few years later, I got braces. At first, I only had braces on my top teeth and I know you're thinking to yourself, "top teeth, that's not all that bad." Well... with those top braces I was given the gift of headgear. YES, you heard me correctly, headgear. Slobbery, metal headgear. I don't have very many memories of my time with said headgear because I blocked out the year I had the damn thing, and you would too! So I've got the top braces and the headgear and then along comes the bottom braces and the bite plate. The only good thing about the addition of these two appliances was that I got to get rid of the headgear (Don't worry, I actually kept it and it's sitting in a keepsake box to show my future husband the real me). Now, I've got the top and bottom braces with a bite plate to keep my top teeth from knocking off my bottom braces. I had this combination of orthodontics for about a year, and somewhere within that year I got elastics to make me look like I had spiderwebs growing in my mouth (Please note: my first kiss with a boy came a while after I got the metal taken out of my mouth). Finally comes the day I get everything taken out of my mouth and off of my teeth. In return, I get a retainer... No biggy, I had that shit in my mouth at 8.

So for 6 years I was walking around with the straightest, most beautiful teeth ever... and then came the incident. Now, before this incident, I wasn't much of a floss-er. I would lie when the hygienist asked if I flossed everyday just like everybody else does. I was 19 and had to get my wisdom teeth out, but because of the many years (and $$$) of orthodontics, the dentist said he could do it, which I was happy about because I didn't really want to go under. So the day comes, and I'm sitting in the chair and they tell me they need to take some x-rays to update my file. Fine. X-rays are taken and after about 10 minutes my dentist comes in, puts up the printed x-rays on that light, clip-board thing and he says the following: You have 7 cavities. Cue me crying.

The best part comes later when my Mom has been brought into the room and her and the hygienist are consoling me. My dentist explains that he in fact can NOT take my wisdom teeth out there and I'll have to get surgery and go under (whatever). He says that he can start filling in some of those cavities right away (great). But after a few more minutes of me crying heavily, he says "we can't work on her if she's emotional."

He leaves the room, snot is now coming from my nose because of crying so hard, and I've never been more embarrassed in my life. Actually, there was that time my tear-away pants got ripped off of me in my co-ed grade 7 gym class, exposing my blue Fruit of the Loom panties... but that story is for another time.

PS. For the next few months, I got all my cavities filled and my wisdom teeth pulled and I now floss religiously every single night before I brush my teeth for 2.5 minutes - I time it.

Tune Tuesday

A Canadian and local Vancouverite, Dan Mangan released his 3rd album Oh Fortune on September 27. I recommend the entire thing! My favorite songs are all of them. Seriously.

Motivation Monday

Whether you are in school, at work, at home working etc., it is probably not EXACTLY what you'd like to be doing right now. Am I right? I'm right. I'm using this blog post as a break (I've already taken 3 breaks today) from writing a paper on Canadian poetry, reading a novel, and studying for a quiz.

My friends, it is the first week of October and for university/college students all over the country, it's time to get serious. Goodbye sweet September, with your beautiful cool air and nostalgic smell, full of ambition for the coming semester, and my birthday (of course I'd throw that one in there). Here comes October, with its midterms, papers, and the start of  rainy season (November is rainy-er). It's okay though... we can get through this month, and the next, and then comes December, which for me means Christmas in Mexico with my family... there is nothing better in my eyes.

So there you have it, folks. Mexico is my motivation on this rainy, gloomy Monday. What's yours?

Out and About

Yesterday, my friends and I went on a little bit of a Vancouver restaurant binge, not that there's anything wrong with that. After a night of indulging in some Granville Island Pale Ale (it happens from time to time) we went to Ouisi for breakfast a late lunch. I had the Eggs Florentine, which are seen below. The potatoes were delicious and crispy with a little bit of spice, which sometimes you need the morning after a night of fun. Fantastic little Vancouver bistro!

In the evening, we went to The Eatery which is a modern, experimental take on Japanese. It was my first time there and (prepare for some cheese) won't be my last. We started with some Asahi and had to move to Sapporo. Both delicious, but Asahi is my favorite Japanese beer and lovely with the sushi and gyoza we consumed. 5 out of 6 of us shared the sushi platter called The Assembly Line - all delicious. Interesting to point out the paper mache figures hanging from the ceiling and the DJ mixing beats (took a little bit of getting used to and was a little loud to converse). All in all, affordable, funky, and delicious. See you again, The Eatery!

Vancouver. A city where I was not born but have been born into. I want to show you around this fantastic city of mine. Today I'm going to a couple restaurants around the city to say goodbye to a friend. I will be one of those people taking pictures of their food and the outside of the restaurant. You are welcome.
